HISTORY
Since the 1869 establishment of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, an Asian-interest Greek organization had historically never been introduced on campus. Recognizing this void, ten highly dedicated women - Hue Cao, Uyen Chu, Nicole Michael, Karen Lee, Hanh Nguyen, Le Nguyen, Ly Nguyen, Shayla Nguyen, Trinh Pham, and Kim Anh Pham - sought to bring the first Asian Sorority to UNL. In the Fall 2001, these ten women came together to form Asian Sorority Interest Group (ASIG).
Their aim was to establish an organization that stresses scholarship, leadership, and community service. These women of ASIG went on to pledge their allegiance and loyalty to Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc., an organization founded on these principles. On January 3, 2003, the Xi Chapter of Sigma Psi Zeta was established at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Xi Chapter members work hard to make their group an active organization that works towards promoting and advocating Asian-American and womxn’s issues on the UNL campus. They are committed to making a significant impact on campus by introducing cultural awareness and promoting the spirit of volunteerism and activism.

THE TEN RAYS OF SISTERHOOD
Sigma Psi Zeta was formally established at the University at Albany, State University of New York on March 23, 1994. Our ten founders came together to establish an organization that would better their university and community. Each woman chose a characteristic that would best exemplify strong foundations for Sigma Psi Zeta to follow as it evolved, thus creating the Ten Rays of Sisterhood:
These are values that we continue to uphold today, and use as a guideline to remind us of the spirit in which our sorority was first envisioned.
- Integrity: To uphold the history, values and purposes of Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority Inc.
- Legacy: To take part in the development of active sisters, pledges and alumnae through positive means, to ensure that the Sigma spirit is passed through the educational, individual and collective experiences of those associated with the sorority.
- Scholarship: To support and emphasize academic achievement.
- Philanthropy: To combat the violence against womxn through sister education, community awareness, activism and financial support.
- Professionalism: To best demonstrate SYZterhood and allegiance through organization, conduct and action.
- Community: To support individual SYZters in their personal endeavors of leadership, sportsmanship and community involvement.
- SYZterhood: To give social and emotional support to active and alumnae SYZters, thereby providing invaluable experiences.
- Culture: To promote an awareness of the Asian/Asian-American cultures and heritages, as well as multiculturalism and the cultures of the members represented in the sorority at large.
- Citizenship: To serve as an example of appropriate behavior with the university, other Greeks and the community.
- Activism: To inform and educate about the causes Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority holds dear.
These are values that we continue to uphold today, and use as a guideline to remind us of the spirit in which our sorority was first envisioned.
