WHAT IS RECRUITMENT? |
Recruitment is a period of time in which interested individuals can meet with the SYZters and learn more about Sigma Psi Zeta through social events and activities. It’s completely free with no obligations at any time! Typically held at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters and sometimes during the summer, recruitment is a two-week period in which female and non-binary individuals interested in the sorority are invited to attend various social events in order to get to know the SYZters of Sigma Psi Zeta and vice versa.
General Interest Meetings (GIM's) are hosted during recruitment and interests are expected to attend at least one in order to learn more about the sorority in a more formal sense. If a bid is delivered to and accepted by an individual that goes through our recruitment process, they able to begin the new member education process for Sigma Psi Zeta. Recruitment is a casual time for information to be exchanged and participation in the recruitment process does NOT commit an individual to this particular sorority or the Greek community in any way. Recruitment for Sigma Psi Zeta simply entails learning about the sorority, the member SYZters, and what they stand for collectively as well as individually. This process is meant as a time for an interest to figure out if Sigma Psi Zeta is the right fit for them. |
WHAT IS A BID? |
A bid is a formal invitation to join the sorority at the end of the two recruitment weeks. In order to be eligible for an interview and bid, you must first be a full time student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln having 12 completed credit hours with a minimum 2.7 GPA. During recruitment, you must attend (1) General Interest Meeting, at least (2) other recruitment events, and (1) Huskers Against Hazing Workshop. A written application, which can be obtained during any recruitment event or from any active SYZter, must be completed and returned by the end of the recruitment period. Interviews will be scheduled for those who meet all of the previous requirements (see the Recruitment Checklist for summary).

WHAT IS THE NEW MEMBER EDUCATION PROCESS? |
The new member education process is a process in which one who has formally accepted a bid learns about the history and values of the sorority in order to become a full-fledged member.
During this process, intakes learn what it means to be a Sigma and build invaluable relationships to reach SYZterhood. |
WHO CAN JOIN? |
Those who identify themselves as female or non-binary are allowed to join the SYZterhood! Even though we have Asian-interest roots, we are a multicultural sorority and we are not Asian-exclusive. Many of our SYZterships across the nation include SYZters from a diverse range of racial and ethnic backgrounds who all agree with the core values of our SYZterhood.
|
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE “TYPICAL” SIGMA SISTER? |
There is no “typical” Sigma SYZter. SYZterhood is not a mold for womxn to fit into, nor does it make each SYZter who they are.
Each SYZter contributes her talent, idealism, devotion and energies to the greater organization, giving our SYZterhood the character it has today. We hope that each SYZter will change our SYZter hood, helping it to grow and evolve. |
DOES SIGMA HAZE? |
Sigma Psi Zeta enforces a strict non-hazing policy. We have zero tolerance for hazing and as well as zero hazing record reports. Our organization’s national philanthropy is to combat the violence against womxn, and stand up against the disrespect of womxn in all its myriad forms. Subsequently, to degrade intakes by hazing would contradict the core values our SYZter hood was founded upon.
|
WHAT IS HUSKERS AGAINST HAZING? |
The Huskers Against Hazing anti-hazing workshops are not just for students interested in joining Fraternity and Sorority Life at UNL, all students are welcome. These workshops contain a media-based presentation with videos and personal testimonies. The intent of the workshop is to give students an awareness of hazing and how it negatively affects people.
If a student is interested in joining a MGC or NPHC organization, they are required to attend a Huskers Against Hazing workshop at is held at the beginning of each semester. |
DOES SIGMA HAVE A BROTHER FRATERNITY? |
Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc. does not have a brother fraternity. As a sorority that prizes strong, independent womxn, we have made a deliberate choice to remain unaffiliated with another Greek organization.
However, we always strive for Greek Unity and always look forward to work together with other Greek organizations. |
WHY GREEK LIFE? |
There are many different benefits of Greek life that can enrich your life socially, culturally, AND professionally! Greek life enables you to be part of a close-knit community that reaches far past the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and provides you with another family for life. The opportunities to network, take on leadership roles, develop social skills, and create priceless memories are limitless.
